Is Black Slavery Justified By Noah’s Curse

One of the single most significant occurrence in the world is black bondage. Approximately 9-11 million Africans are documented who are considered as slaves. Some are not even documented, especially those who died during raids, at the hands of slave traders, those who died on the transatlantic routes due to illness and diseases and those who are buried on all the surrounding islands. Lately, a mass grave of nearly 5,000 dead bodies of African slaves was found in St. Helena and many more have been discovered recently.

Slavery had been a common practice in Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas. A victorious warring nation will capture the inhabitants of the defeated nation as slaves. Whether the Caucasians are at fault or the Africans are to share in the blame, occasionally, Whites will use Noah’s curse on Canaan as the basis to justify black slavery. Churches are actually on the forefront of slavery during black slavery period. Perpetrating evil in the name is extremely evil. I don’t blame several blacks who cannot fathom the horror lest serving the same “God” that was used to enslave them.  This is absolutely a wrong perception. Every living soul perished with the first creation when God used the flood to wipe everyone off the face of the earth. Noah found favor in the eye of God and he was spared with his family and in-laws and 2 of every living creature (Genesis 7: 1-24).  And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. (Gen. 7:12 KJV). The Gilgamesh tales also told of such a story where a flood caused the demise of the inhabitants of the world. The water abated after 150 days, the ark rested on Mount Ararat in modern day Turkey before dried lands emerges from the waters (Gen. 8: 1-13)

After the episode, Noah initially built an altar and becomes a husbandman planted the first vineyard recorded in the bible. He became drunk and uncovered himself. Ham, most likely, the youngest son of Noah, saw the nakedness of his father and told his brothers. However, Shem and Japheth went and covered their father’s nakedness (Gen. 9: 20-23). Many have interpreted this particular this being a “homosexual act” and not merely seeing the nakedness of his father. Bible didn’t specify this and there was nothing to back this up. However, it should be noted that seeing one’s parent naked is a big deal then as opposed to what we have nowadays where we don’t have respect for our bodies. We show our bodies indiscreetly often without a problem.

Regardless of the turn of event, when Noah woke up and he realized what his younger son had done, he placed a curse on his grandchild; Canaan; Ham is the father of Canaan. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. (Gen. 9:25 KJV). Ham is the father of Canaan, Cush, Mizraim and Phut. Canaan is the father of the Phoenicians (Palestine). Mizraim is the father of the Egyptians whereas Cush is the ancestor of the Ethiopians. Phut is the father of the Libyans. A cursed was placed on Canaan and not on the blacks at all. Ancient Egyptians and the modern blacks share similar DNA. For example, Rameses III had haplogroup E1b1a; a subtype of E-V38 found in Y-chromosome often found among black males. Being on Y-chromosome meant the gene can only be transformed from father to son. E-V38 is common among the Bamileke in Cameroon, Ewe, Ga and Yoruba people in Nigeria.

The curse was partly fulfilled in the scripture when God called Abraham from the region of Mesopotamia to an unknown land. It should be mentioned that Abraham was a descendant of Shem to which God promised him the kingdoms of the Canaanites, which are the Sidonites, Amalekites and Jebusites etc. They were utterly destroyed as recorded in the Old Testament when the Israelites came out of slavery under the Pharaohs of Egypt. Some of the neighboring cities and countries whom the Israelites failed to conquer were eventually assimilated.

Gospel of Conflict

On a Saturday morning while driving to work, I listened to a radio program where the minister was talking about conflict and how Jesus didn’t come to bring peace into the world but rather a sword. Although I agreed with some of the points, being a Christian myself and not a baby one, I beg to disagree with some of his points. The scripture he quoted was 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. (Matt. 10:34 KJV). However, Apostle Paul said, follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: (Heb. 12:14 KJV)

The sword in this context was a figurative speech. One thing I have learnt about the Bible is that don’t just take one verse out to explain something, but rather look at the whole, the bigger picture. The “sword” bible was talking about was the inevitable separation (division) between the “Christians” and those who don’t follow the doctrine of Christ. Even Jesus’s own family didn’t believe him initially until later. Likewise, we Christians and not just those who professed Christ with their mouth but their hearts are far away from God, will also experience such separation at work, church, homes, the societies at large and even the government (e.g. several laws will be promulgated such as banning prayers and other artefacts in Schools in America).

However, Jesus promised that we shouldn’t be afraid as He had overcome this world. Combining two scriptures;

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (Jn. 14:27 KJV)

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world (Jn. 16:33 KJV).

Shows that strife, turmoil and conflicts will continue as long as there are human beings. There will be never be an “utopian peace” but Christians can be at peace with themselves even in the face of adversaries, poverty, danger and other problems in this world. We can have peace in the positive blessings and being in right relationship with the Father. It is worthy to note that “peace is never the absence of problems”. There will always be troubles and problems but as Christians we shouldn’t let those move us.

We can only pray to God to keep us till the end even in the midst of the conflicts. I have read and listened to news about mass killings both in America and European countries either fueled by religion or racial injustice and some others have no basis at all. These are so sickening. However, this is not going to stop until the end of the world and it’s going to get worse by the day. We are approaching the end of the world. When Jesus foretold the signs of destruction such as wars, rumors of wars, earthquake, pestilences, famines, and other great signs that all those must come to pass before the second coming of our Lord Jesus. No amount of prayer will overturn those from happening. Our prayers can delay it, shorten it but they are all bounds to happen. Our prayer should be even in the midst of this, God should keep us safe.

Look at the case of Al Quaeda for instance, today it is called by another name ISIS and tomorrow God knows what other name the “institution” will be called. No matter USA’s and Russia’s intervention in bringing peace to the Middle East, long lasting peace is a farce and this is unattainable. This is fulfillment of the gospel in the Old Testament when God blessed Ishmael (the first man to be named by God in the bible); And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. (Gen. 16:12 KJV). Being the father of Muslims, all these senseless killings and bombings will never end as some people will always use religion to perpetrate evil in the name of Allah in the fulfillment of the gospel.

Marriage

Marriage was first constituted by God when He created Eve from the one of the ribs of Adam. How is that possible? I don’t know but I believe the God Word’s are true. This was the first recorded marriage ceremony with God and Eve working down the aisle waiting to be presented to Adam (Genesis 2:22). How awesome it would be for God to work down in my marriage ceremony? We might not see Him physically but His presence is there with us.

This might generate little controversies as some might think I am a sexist. God created Eve as a soul mate and a helper for Adam. There was a reason why He used a rib to form her rather than from clay or mud signifying man is the head of the woman in marriage. For this reason, a man shall leaves his parent’s house and cling to his wife and they shall become one.

In marriage, the man is the head and provider of the family. How can a wife respect the husband if the man doesn’t provide or perform his duties? Regardless, a woman should respect the man. The wife is the helper and the anchor of the family. Without a good wife, I don’t think a family can weather the storms of life. Can the wife step up if the man is not in the right position to provide? Of course YES.

In marriage, we have gender roles and “division of labor”. One person cannot do it all and that’s the reason all single parents out there deserves recognition. We have various members in the body and they all work in unison just for one ultimate goal. In marriage, the husband and the wife have different jobs but are still in unison.

The wife thinks she is equal to the husband in marriage but will always generate issues. The wife is to be submissive to the husband. For the woman to be submissive, the man as well must be ready to “love” her as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:22-23). You are to protect her, cherish her, and make her the most important and missing piece of you that you have been looking for all these years. It’s a give and take decision!!

From a Christian perspective, marriage is “till death do us part”. You must be careful and prayerful when choosing your spouse. Don’t do something that you are going to regret. Some people marry at a tender age due to lust. They can’t separate love from lust. There’s no room for divorce in the bible apart from infidelity (Matthew 5:32). If God can forgive, who are we not to forgive our spouses? The divorce rate between believers and non-believers are the same and you wonder, what are they teaching us in church?

Marriage involves two different people from different backgrounds teaching coming together; there will always some issues. Life is full of ups and downs. This is also true of marriage. No one is perfect and you shouldn’t expect your spouse to be perfect too. Give room for mistakes. However, if the foundation of the marriage is in God, things will go smoother but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any trouble. Plant your house on the hill such that when the wind comes strong, you are still standing. You can easily weather the storms of life. People of my generation expect everything to be perfect and we don’t have patience to wait. Marriages don’t last any longer than few years nowadays before filing for divorce. Compare this to when our grandparents are still alive. As will go through the journey of life, expect that you spouse is going to change in a way and be ready for that. I’m no longer the man I was 8 years ago.

Greater Things Shall Ye Do

As a young believer, I was fascinated with the stories in the bible. How can God though Moses divided the red sea and the children of Israel walked in the midst with pillars of sea of sea on both sides, the crumbling of the wall of Jericho just by “mere” shout and some other miracles recorded in the bible. Even though Jesus have been promised to be crucified from the foundation of the world, His birth by Virgin Mary is incomprehensible and a miracle (Luke 1:27, Revelation 13:8). Baby Jesus grew up in favor and stature and was about His Father’s business. He started his Ministry at the age of 30. Within 3 years, His fame spread around Jerusalem healing the sick, the deaf and blind. He performed various miracles some recorded in the bible. He completed His ministry on the planet called earth when He breathed the last and said it is finish (John 19:30). Our salvation and salvation was completed on the Cross of Calvary.

His last commission to every believer is to go into the world and make disciples of all Nation (Matthew 28:19). Some are passionate about this especially the missionaries whereas others are indifferent about it. How can we preach to the poor when we ourselves are poor? How can we preach to someone who is hungry and we cannot meet his or her needs? How can we say we are Christians if there is no performance of signs and miracles? To be candid, the easiest way to preach to an unbeliever is through your life and not even by opening your mouth. Remember, action speaks louder than voice.

Interestingly, while Jesus was still in this earth, He promised us one thing; greater things shall we do (John 14:12). Why then are we powerless Christians? Can we heal the sick lest raising the dead? You have to let the Spirit move! My friend once said, Jesus came into this world to show us what we human beings are capable of doing. Jesus was hungered, thirsty like everyone. He was notably called Son of Man in the New Testament. He was God in human flesh but He prevailed through all and was able to perform all the miracles. Before Jesus started His ministry, the concept of Trinity was conceived. The dove, which signifies the Spirit of God, descended and rest on Jesus and a voice from heaven, was heard, saying this is my beloved in whom I am well pleased (Matthew 3:16, Mark 1:10). We can see the Trinity working in harmony, God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

If Jesus, also a God, would need the Holy Spirit before He started His ministry, we are powerless without the Holy Spirit. Everything we need, have been deposited in us. We are children of God because we have a piece of Him in us and the Holy Spirit testifies about this. When He created us, He breathed air into Adams’s nostrils. We all share that part of God in us. If we allow the Holy Spirit to work, we would be unstoppable.

So, what’s stopping us from performing great and mighty things? We have continuously grieved the Holy Spirit and deprived Him of “action”. Hence the reason why we are powerless. How do we grief the Holy Spirit? We grieved the Holy Spirit by sinning. There is constant warring between the flesh and our spirits. The spirits wants to do well but the flesh is weak. Therefore, we must mortify our flesh and renew our mind everyday. Inasmuch as we have this flesh, it’s a constant struggle and occasionally we will fall but we must learn to get up and ask for the help of the Holy Spirit.

A measure of faith has been given to every believer when you give your life to Christ (Romans 12:3). It’s an individual decision whether to increase it or not. Some people have a higher level of faith and others have marginal faith. Bible says if you have faith like mustard seed, you will say to the mountain be thou removed and it shall be removed and cast into the lake (Matthew 17:20). Unfortunately, most of us lack faith that is needed to do greater works including myself. Doubt is the exact opposite of faith. When there is doubt, there is no faith and we cannot do greater things.

Satan will always bring doubt in our minds whenever we fall into sin. He will always bring the sins to remembrance and try to convince us that we are not acceptable into God’s presence because of the sin and neither are we worthy. Remember, Jesus already have victory over Satan. Rise up and face Satan because he is powerless but can only bring doubts into you to question your standings with God and whether God can do such a great thing or not.

In conclusion, the two things that we are lacking to do greater things are Holy Spirit and lack of faith.

Feedbacks will be appreciated. Remember to share if you are blessed by this small writings. To God be the glory!!!!!

Praising God

Being a medical student, I have to be on call whenever my doctor is on call. Here, waiting at the hospital, this song “10,000 reasons (Bless The Lord O my soul) by Matt Redman couldn’t depart from my lips. I kept on singing even though I don’t know all the lyrics. I repeated the chorus over and over again. It’s like one of the days I have no worry whatsoever.
Why is praise so important? I just want to write why I think praise is a must have ingredient for a Christian. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name (Psalm 100:4). Praise is a step further to thanksgiving. Thanksgiving will open the gate for you but you have no access to the inner court where the throne of God is. Think about all these old adventure movies, entering the gate will give you access to the outer courtyard whereas praise will take you to the Throne of Mercy”. When everything seems down, when you are at your valley, when you have prayed all prayers you can say and it’s like God is not answering, revert to Praise. This will get God’s attention and remember God is merciful. When all hope is gone, you can count on praise.
Peter admonished the believers to show forth their praise to Him who bring us out of darkness (1Peter2:9). It’s a good thing to give praise to God. Honor and give praise to the one that redeemed us from the snares of the fowler, from the claws of the predator that is the Satan and saves us from the pit of darkness and damnation. The knowledge that our death is not the end of life, that there is a life after death and that He had prepared an eternal mansion is enough to give glory and praise to God.
Jehoshaphat defeated the vast army from Edom just by praising God (2Chronicles 20:21). Singing and praising God proved the difference between victory and defeat. With praise on your side, you can count on victory. There are many other instances in the bible where their victories over their enemies was assured due to Praising God. It was with praise that the Great Wall of Jericho came down. After the 7th time of shouting, after the 7th day, the wall crumbled. You should not only praise God for what He had done but what also He’s about to do. Praise Him in advance for what He is about to do. Because faithful is He to bring to pass all that He had promised. Praising Him even right before the miracle is manifested will ensure that you will never miss it.
Praise is our reasonable service to God. It should continually be on our lips. One person that knows how to praise God is David. God said about David that he’s a man after His heart. I wish same can be said about me.
Judah means “Now will I praise God” (Gen 29:35). How many Judahs do we have? Only the living can praise the name of The Lord. The dead cannot praise Him. Praise Him while you still can.

Forgiveness and Redemption

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis1:1), God created the world and everything in the world in just six (6) days. Some might argue that the 6 days might be more than that since the scripture says a day is like a thousand in the sight of God. Whichever the case, nothing was created without Him (John 1:3)

He created Adam and formed Eve from one of the ribs of Adam. So Eve was formed but soon the disaster followed. Eve was tempted by serpent (Satan) to eat the forbidden fruit that God commanded them not to eat. She ate the fruit and gave part of it to Adam to eat. This prompted God to drive them out of the Garden of Eden after cursing the land for Adam’s sake, cursing the women as well as the Satan. It was here that the first prophecy was uttered. A seed of this woman shall bruise the head of the serpent (Genesis 3:15). The Cherubim guides the Garden of Eden ever since.

Who is that seed of the woman and who is that serpent? The seed of the woman is Jesus Christ who was slain even before the foundation of the world was laid. Satan, the ancient serpent of the old was crushed down and defeated by Jesus Christ when he died on the cross of Calvary. Herod couldn’t hold him when he decreed all children below 2 years should be killed (Matthew 2:26). Satan couldn’t conquer him, he failed woefully with the way he tempted our Master, failing three times (Luke 4:1-13). Finally, the grave couldn’t hold him back because He is the firstborn of the dead neither was the great stone used to protect the tomb could hold him back after His resurrection but the stone was moved away. What an awesome God we served!!!!!

The beauty of the whole episode was that Christ borne our sins on the cross. God, the Father have to turn His eyes away from Jesus because He is too holy to behold iniquities but He couldn’t suffer the body to Christ to suffer condemnation. When He died on the cross of Calvary, there was darkness over the land and the veil in the temple was torn into two (Mark 15:38) . Thereafter after the death and resurrection of Jesus, we can boldly enter into His presence.

Can we live in this crazy world without sinning? I doubt it. We are once perfect when God created Adam but we lost our perfection. Now we are only trying to be perfect and to redeem our lost glory but redemption only comes through Jesus Christ. Inasmuch as we are in this flesh, we are bound to commit errors and mistakes but just as the parable of the prodigal son in the bible, you can still go back to God and ask for forgiveness and He will accept you back in His fold.

God doesn’t want a sinner to die in his or her sin but to repent and forsake his old ways no matter how terrible you think you are, God will forgive him if you ask for forgiveness. He will wipe your slate clean and you will start afresh. In the end, we are either sheep or goats. Sheep are obedient to their master and doing His will whereas goats are disobedient to the master. What are you?

Beyism

Although am not a huge fan of the entertainment industry, I recently stumbled on an article deifying Beyoncé as a “goddess”. It was on a Sunday morning trying to Google out the address of a Church, among the list of churches, I found National Church of Bey. Out of curiosity, I clicked the link and it directed me to a news page where the church responded to criticisms and also how the church was formed. Although the church, started in the South West Atlanta, are predominantly women but men are also welcome only after they lose their manhood. What is this world turning to be?

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion and responsible for his or her actions, I think this is insanity in the highest order. Pauline John Andrews, the founder of the church described Beyoncé as a deity walking among the living and could transcend into the spirit when her work is completed right here on the earth. What is her work here on earth?

Is she really a deity? A deity is defined as a being with powers greater than those of ordinary humans, but who interacts with humans, positively or negatively, in ways that carry humans to new levels of consciousness beyond the grounded preoccupations of ordinary life. What powers did she possess that average human beings don’t have?

Growing up in a community where Christianity coexisted with both Islamic and traditional religion, I believed in the existence of the evil spirits. In Revelation 12:9 “”The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him””. We are nearing the end of the days and Peter admonished us to be sober because Satan is a roaring lion looking for whom to devour because he has short time (1Peter 5:8).

Who are the workers of iniquity here, Beyoncé or Pauline and her cohorts? Isn’t her work to spread profanity and immorality among the youths? Beyoncé would have at least issued a statement condemning the action of these individuals but she kept mute literally meaning she is definitely in support of their wicked practices. Doesn’t it strike a bell among you? Pauline and other 11 followers started the National Church of Bey whereas Jesus Christ while on this evil planet called earth also had 12 disciples. While Jesus Christ is the only God that walked among us, felt our burdens, healed the sick, lame and blind and was aware of our sorrow, Pauline claimed that Beyonce is another deity walking among us with flesh and blood. Are they trying to equate Jesus Christ with Beyoncé? While Jesus commanded His disciples and every followers to go into the world and make disciple of all nations, Pauline and her brethren are also going to the nations to spread the world and in due time might be an international religion with branches everywhere. Pauline and her sisters are the disciples and worshippers of Satan whose agenda is only to populate the hell.

While she claimed and many other Internet users believed that Sasha Fierce possesses her and that only comes out when she is performing, I don’t believe in reality that she is possessed by a demon called Sasha Fierce. It’s just a way to stay relevant and popular among the people. Just like the media, give them what they want. She might belong to a particular cult or be possessed after all, who knows? One thing is certain, her messages are immoral and against the doctrine of the Bible, The Bible warns us not to believe all spirit but try them because not all of them are from the Father (I John 4:1). This is one of the signs of the end days; for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many (Matthew 24:5). Although they are are not claiming Beyoncé as the Jesus Christ, they are almost equaling her with Jesus. We should all be aware of all these end time prophecies, the end is near. According to the bible, do not worship any other god, neither make any graven image and never worship anything apart from him (Genesis 20: 3-7). Don’t be caught unaware, live everyday as if today is your last day on this plant earth. If it’s possible, stay away from all these godless musics and be prepared for his second coming.
